The World Trade Organization just effectively nullified the critical program for the ban on dolphin-safe labeling of tuna. It’s been difficult to wrap our minds around how the TPP (Trans-Pacific Partnership) would affect our world. We now know the possibilities are devastating for the environment, workers, and our planet.
Here is one example of what the TPP is doing “…in order to placate Mexico as a member nation of the Trans-Pacific Partnership, the World Trade Organization deemed dolphin-safe labeling a ‘technical barrier to trade'”.
According to the article (see link below), dolphin-safe labeling reduced dolphin deaths from more than 100,000 to 3,000–a 97 reduction in dolphin deaths. Because of the TPP, that will be no more.
